Do Asian women prefer submissive men?

I have a friend who is here from Vietnam to study. She was bragging about how her boyfriend holds her purse while they are shopping in the mall. She called him a "modern man" and meant it in a positive way. Mostly as a result of knowing her, I am interested in meeting more Asian women, but not if the only way to get with one is to emasculate myself.
