Help with my first Bikini wax?

Well, I'm 14 years old and i use to love going swimming. But unfortunately my family has a history of quite hairy people ( gross i know) and i refuse to wear a bathing suit and to go swimming anymore because of hair down there. I tried shaving it and using hair remover cream but shaving it you can still see little black bumps and red razor bumps after wards to and the cream is just the same as shaving. I've been doing research and found that waxing your bikini line is more efficient and doesn't leave anyway little black hair bumps or red bumps. And i want to get my bikini line done at a salon. But i feel uncomfortable about having to take off my underwear. So my questions are do i have to take off my panties for a bikini wax? and does it really work good? and does it really hurt as much as i read about online? Please tell me about your experiences of getting it done. Thanks for your help. (:
