Help! I tried to high light my hair blonde from a dark brown to black hair but now is orange !?

I really want to get rid of the orange tone high light and have a bright blonde high light but going to a salon costs to much .Is it going to work if I buy a blonde all over hair color and apply to my whole head and then the orange high light will go blonde ???did anyone try this ???plz help
