My Boyfriend Is too Protective....?

At first I thought it was really sweet that my boyfriend was being protective of me but now it's becoming ridiculous. He wont let me talk to any of my guy friends, some of which i grew up with. Now he's starting to try and control what I wear as well. We went to the movies and I was wearing a pair of jeans and a long sleeve shirt, he said that my chest was showing and he refused to go inside the theater with me (the collar of the shirt was practically to my neck ) . I really care about him but I dont want to become one of those submissive girls who eventually gets beat up by her boyfriend or something (not that im saying he'd ever it me!) .... I've told him how I felt but he just got mad at me. What can I do to make him less protective??
